The Elegant Box pt. 5
Yesterday I completely demolished my second version of my gallery in Alpha Centauri and rebuilt the darn thing, after spending about an hour with pencil and paper.
I have my reasons.
The first gallery was distinguished by large balconies around the outside, framing inner exhibition spaces; you could walk or fly in at any point, and follow a spiral path up and down. Unfortunately the stairs weren’t obvious, being hidden at the back of the building, and after rezzing a few test pics I wiped it.
Gallery the second was a decorated box with two entrances flanking a water feature, with a glass frontage and central staircase. The roof was to be additional gallery space on sloping railings, but I soon realised, not before rezzing all my works and re-making the Writers’ Walk ones, that it was still unattractive and worse still, ugly.
The current gallery is designed differently. There are two levels, built in and around a white set of frames which support and outline the entrances and horizontal elements. Inside, five separate spaces hold different exhibits; the Writers’ Walk (for one) will be ready shortly. The entrance hall itself communicates not only with the street, but also out the back to the protected land in Vega. While not exactly what I intended, this version of the gallery will last for quite a while, I think.
Now I have to sand off the edges, stock the mofo and get things ready to open for once. Anyone want a walk-in shop front in Collins? It’ll be going cheap.
In the meantime I have some writing to do.
