I’ve been hearing about Jumper, the movie based far too loosely on the SF novel by Steven Gould — so you already know I am dead certain the film is nothing more than a load of tripe, served Hollywood style.

Then again, the book is from the early 90s. I mean, there’s nothing sexy about being chased by the FBI, and foiling pre-9/11-era hijacking attempts would have the audience rolling their eyes these days.

Local opinion columnist Joe Bennett has had the misfortune of seeing it, and wrote a hilarious column on how the pitch must have gone, albeit without mentioning Mr Gould that I could see.

Mind you, when I heard about the inclusion of Paladins and age-old wars, I knew I wasn’t wasting my money on this film.

I don’t mind “based on”, but for pity’s sake, try to be faithful to the original material — and not just the name!
