This game is one of the more inventive “drawing” games out there. Simply put, you’re a spider trying to keep your web intact and your belly well-fed… with the intention of lunching on bat.

A game of Arachnophilia in action

Movement is done by clicking at your destination (or victim), and creating web is done by dragging a line from start to finish. This is important as the mechanic involves maintaining your web in order to catch enough insects to both replenish your spinnerets and keep alive.

This is fairly easy while you’re catching ladybugs and flies, but start throwing bees, stag beetles, dragonflies and who knows what else into the mix, and the game gets very hard, very quickly. Each bug that blunders into your web damages the strands, and the bigger they are, the more webbing you need to catch the sods. A bad run of luck can see your web utterly destroyed by a run of stag beetles… which usually means curtains.

Graphics? They’re mostly line art, but get straight to the point and it’s easy to identify what’s in your web. Sound is clean and simple, and the music is pleasantly low-key and downbeat, fitting the simple yet complex gameplay.

This one’s going in the sidebar.
