The Chronicles of Anton pt. 0

Anton is my second “serious” character playing Oblivion. My previous character, the Argonian assassin She-Sees-Promise, busted through the main quest, became the new Sheogorath, head of the Archaeology Guild (_Lost Spires_)... then things became boring and unstable and I put her out to grass. Sorry toots, but you’re in good company with Scent-of-Victory, the Argonian warrior who defeated Dagoth Ur, rose almost to the top of the Imperial Legion, and finished a few other third party quests.

The Oblivion loadout is as follows:

  1. Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul v1.3 — this massive (485MB) mod makes the game noticeably more difficult with packs of animals and bandits, adjusted item and weapon weights and values, and a swag of other changes. The first time you get attacked by an ethereal imp, you’ll know you’re not in vanilla Cyrodiil any more.
  2. Alternate Start v3 — This mod allows you to completely skip the long, dull tutorial and scene-setting. Choose your residence if any, then read your mail to get started. Currently Anton resides quietly in Leyawiin… or did.
  3. Shivering Isles — I don’t intend doing this again, but apparently OOO needs it.
  4. Knights of the Nine — This beastie I intend running through to the end. Other characters have falteringly started it, but Anton’s going to be more serious about this.
  5. Living Economy by CreepyFellow — Merchants’ gold drops with every sale and rises with every purchase, like in a real economy. No more flogging half a dozen glass warhammers in one go.
  6. Low Poly Grass — new models which reduce the polygon count of Oblivion’s grass from 20 to 8. It doesn’t look too hot from directly above, but for those with low-end computers it’s a godsend.

Anton himself is a Redguard delver, or at least he used to be. His specialty was exploring local caverns and ruins for treasures, and his success was such that he was able to buy a modest house in Leyawiin. His preferred weaponry is blunt — axe, club or his fists — and he knows a bit about moving comfortably in both heavy and light armours.

However, times are harder now. His hoard of treasures dwindling, thanks to the increasing boldness of slavers and bandits, including the notorious Black Bow Gang, his already peaceless sleep is made worse by a most peculiar dream…
